Mojo 326

Hello Friends!
Its the last Mojo Monday of the year so I had to play along!  This is actually the second card I made using the sketch.  The first one just did not go well.  I had it in my mind to use specific paper and a specific stamp set and forcing them together was a bad idea!  So, I started over and came up with this:
Supplies used in this card:
Paper:Yours Truly by Echo Park, Cardstock-Holiday Red, Black and Blush by CTMH
Stamps: A Love by CTMH (Disc.)
Inks: Slate Dye Ink and Cranberry Pigment Ink by CTMH
Accessories: Gems by Recollections, Ribbon from the Ribbon Retreat

I cut the card and the black ring from the Cricut Wild Card cartridge.

Thanks for taking a look, have a crafty day!

Layout Share

Hello friends!
I hope you had a fabulous Christmas!  The hubs had to go back to work today, I guess that's the first step back to real life.  But the kids and I still have a whole week until school starts again, we plan to take full advantage of that fact, too.  Today I want to share with you a couple of layouts that I've been able to complete so far this break (hopefully I'll be able to complete several more before break is over!)
The first layout is from when H was only about 11 months old, she was finally big enough to wear her cheerleading outfit that we had purchased for her and I was able to do her first ever ponytail!  For this layout I followed the Spellbound pattern from CTMH's Magic book.  The bottom pic shows where I put in a little booklet under a picture to be able to fit more pictures of her little ponytail on the layout.  I keep the booklet closed with a string wrapped around a button that is adhered to the picture on the top of the booklet.
Supplies used in this layout:
Paper: Playground by Echo Park, CTMH Cardstock in Holiday Red (DIsc.), Outdoor Denim and White Daisy
Inks: Slate by CTMH
Accessories: Brads by The Paper Studio, Ribbon from The Ribbon Retreat, Thread is Fancy Floss in black magic by We R Memory Keepers, Heart Button from my button jar.
I also used the Elmo's Party cricut cartridge to cut out the title.

The second layout delves back into the archives.  I was cleaning my craft room last weekend and came across these pictures that I hadn't scrapbooked yet, they're from C's 2nd birthday party (he's 7 1/2 now)!
For this layout I used a variation of a layout found in Becky Higgins' Creative Sketches 2 book.
Supplies used in this layout:
Paper: Babycakes paper pack from CTMH
Inks: Slate and Chocolate from CTMH
Stamps: Hero Alphabet (Disc.) from CTMH
Accessories: Babycakes badge buttons from CTMH, glitter wall tape from Hobby Lobby
I used the Artbooking cricut cartridge from CTMH to cut out the '2'

Thanks for coming to visit me today!  Remember you can visit my website www.shellydavis.ctmh.com to purchase any of the current CTMH products used in these projects.

Have a crafty day!

Snow Days!

Hello Friends!
We got a nice little winter storm late last week which means the kids were out of school on Friday and again yesterday and today!
Ready to go play in the snow!

Since I wasn't going anywhere for awhile I got to do a lot of catching up on my crafting!  Here are a few projects that I was able to finish in the past few days:
A Christmas table runner for a friend.
A card using an older Mojo Monday sketch (I can't remember now which one)

A card using scraps left over from a scrapbook page

Two single page layouts using pictures from several years ago (sorry for the bad picture, I was too lazy to take them out of the album before I took the pic).
I also got my aunt's Christmas present done, I got the binding sewn onto a quilt that I'm making for my husband, I made a Christmas present for a friend and an ornament to decorate the package, and I got the chance to play around with a couple of other techniques.  Not a bad way to spend an unexpected long weekend!
Well, the kids are back to school tomorrow and I'm back to work.  I'm happy about it because I miss my job but now I'm going to miss all my extra crafting time!

Thankful For Teachers

Hello Friends!
I know its been forever since I took the time to blog, I've just been letting life run away with me.
Today I want to share with you some simple cards that I made.
I used paper from the Linen Closet Stack by DCWV.  The scalloped circles were made with a paper punch and the letters were cut from the CTMH Cricut cartridge Art Philosophy.
I plan to give these sets to my kids' teachers on the last day of school before Thanksgiving break.  Just a little gift to say how thankful we are to have them teaching our kids.
Thanks for visiting me and have a great day!

Long Time...

Wow!  I guess I haven't done too well with that goal of blogging at least once a week, have I? I'm also pretty far behind with that list of quilts I was going to do in 2013.  I don't think I'm very good at keeping to a list of specific quilts to make.  I get too distracted by new fabrics and quilt designs that I see.  In fact I haven't done much of anything with my sewing machine for nearly two weeks.  We went on an Alaskan cruise last week and the days before that were spent packing us for our cruise and the kids to go stay with Nana and Poppy.  The days after were spent trying to get everything back to normal.  But I did get to spend sometime with my sewing machine this weekend, I missed her.  Yesterday I made this cover for my iPad.
At one of the ports of call, there was a great little quilt shop which carried several Alaskan themed prints.  I chose 5 batik prints in shades of blue to bring home with me.  I used some of that fabric for this cover, and I still have some left that I plan to make a lap quilt with, but I haven't chosen a quilt pattern yet.

Today I pulled out this bandana print fabric.  I found it at Hancock Fabrics a few months ago and even thought I didn't know for sure what I was going to do with it, I knew I had to have it, in several colors!
I decided to use it to make a log cabin quilt.  The strips in this block started at 3 inches wide.  I love using bigger pieces in traditional blocks.  It makes for a bold block, plus they go together faster!  I love the way this is turning out.  The colors and the print make me think of Land Run Day from elementary school.  I plan to make 16 blocks with a finished size of 12.5" each.  I'm also putting a 2" sashing between each block which will give the quilt a finished size of approx.  60" square.

We've got just under three weeks until school starts!  18 days to be exact.  AACK!  Where did the summer go?  Its okay, I'm on top of it.  I've already got new shoes and backpacks for both kids and the boy's school supplies.  I still need to get supplies for the girl but since she's still in preschool, her list is short.  I don't but the kids new clothes for the start of school. Its still hot around here so they can still wear their summer clothes.  I'll save my money and buy them new winter clothes when the weather starts to get cooler.  ( I wait until the weather turns because if I purchase them too early, the kids will outgrow them before they get the chance to wear them!)
Since we have so few days left of summer vacation, I want to make the most of them.  Today we made pizza for dinner.  Usually I prefer to cook by myself, its easier and faster, but the kids wanted to help.  I know they like helping me cook, I'm just usually in too big of a hurry.  Today I slowed down a bit and got some assistance from the cutest two sous chefs in the world.
And the pizza was delicious!
Tomorrow we're going to wash the car and make painted plaster bugs.  I need to clean the house too, but if I don't get to it, that's okay.

The Coming End of Spring Break

Spring Break is almost over:(  Just one more day of rest nd then it's back to the daily of packed lunches, and making sure everyone gets to school, soccer, dance and wherever else they need to be on time.  We've had a pretty laid back lazy break, no major plans, so I've been able to get a fair amount of quilting done.  I have three quilts that I am in the process of piecing.  The first one is my paper foundation pieced string quilt.

These pieces are half a row each.  All I have left to do on this one is to finish putting each row together and then sew all the rows together, I should get this top finished before the end of spring break.
The next one I'm working on is a table topper, actually two of them.

These are the pieces for a couple of table toppers.  I need to piece all the blocks and then put them together with a slashing.  I probably won't get this one finished this week because I don't think I have the right color of red in my stash to do the sashing with.  It may have to wait until after payday to be finished.
The last one I'm working on is a hexagon quilt.

This quilt is made using the half hexagon template from Missouri Star Quilt Company (I <3 data-blogger-escaped-actually="" data-blogger-escaped-all="" data-blogger-escaped-and="" data-blogger-escaped-are="" data-blogger-escaped-around="" data-blogger-escaped-back="" data-blogger-escaped-bought="" data-blogger-escaped-clingy="" data-blogger-escaped-cut="" data-blogger-escaped-depends="" data-blogger-escaped-design="" data-blogger-escaped-div="" data-blogger-escaped-doing="" data-blogger-escaped-fabric="" data-blogger-escaped-finished="" data-blogger-escaped-get="" data-blogger-escaped-getting="" data-blogger-escaped-got="" data-blogger-escaped-how="" data-blogger-escaped-i="" data-blogger-escaped-in="" data-blogger-escaped-it.="" data-blogger-escaped-it="" data-blogger-escaped-its="" data-blogger-escaped-just="" data-blogger-escaped-jut="" data-blogger-escaped-kids="" data-blogger-escaped-laid="" data-blogger-escaped-m="" data-blogger-escaped-might="" data-blogger-escaped-msqc="" data-blogger-escaped-my="" data-blogger-escaped-now="" data-blogger-escaped-october="" data-blogger-escaped-of="" data-blogger-escaped-on="" data-blogger-escaped-one="" data-blogger-escaped-out="" data-blogger-escaped-pieces="" data-blogger-escaped-pleasure="" data-blogger-escaped-something="" data-blogger-escaped-store="" data-blogger-escaped-template="" data-blogger-escaped-the="" data-blogger-escaped-this="" data-blogger-escaped-to="" data-blogger-escaped-tomorrow.="" data-blogger-escaped-ve="" data-blogger-escaped-visiting="" data-blogger-escaped-wall.="" data-blogger-escaped-week="" data-blogger-escaped-when="" data-blogger-escaped-with="">

Piecing Batting Scraps

Just a quick share today!  One of the pages I follow on facebook shared this tutorial today on how to piece together batting scraps so that they can be used for larger quilts.  I have several scraps hanging around my craft room because I figured I could used them for something.  I've heard that this can be done but I've never done it before.  Thanks to Chrissie D. for posting this tutorial:
Tutorial:Piecing together batting scraps to make a new batting sheet
I know I will be trying it out soon.  Let me know if you try it out and how it goes.

Have a great day!

Lesson Learned

Lesson learned, the hard way.  Always double check the amount of backing fabric you need for your quilt before purchasing it.

This is my beautiful shoo fly quilt (remember, I showed you a few of the blocks a couple of weeks ago).  I put it up on my design wall( I love this thing!) to make my quilt sandwich so that I could machine quilt it.  I got it all spray basted and up on the wall only to discover that I'm about 6" short on backing fabric.  If I had another 2" it would be long enough to cover the back of the quilt and I could make do, but its too short for even that.
See?  Missed it by that much!  Oh well, live and learn, right?  I plan to take off the row on each end of the quilt after I do my machine quilting so that everything is covered by backing.  Actually once I take off the end rows, the quilt will be a better proportion, as it is, its a little on the long and skinny side.  I guess there is a silver lining to every cloud!  Have a great weekend!  I'll be back soon to share with you the quilts I've finished recently!  Sew Happy!

Playing catchup

  Hello Friends!
Okay so I'm sort of falling behind on that whole once a week thing aren't I?  School started back up this week which means that things are definitely more hectic around our house, but that's no surprise.  Since the first of the year, I got the fabric for 4 quilts, 1 bed size, 2 throw size and 1 table runner.  However I haven't had the time to work on them, I'm still working on the shoo fly quilt that I had started, I almost have all of the blocks finished so I can start putting the quilt top together soon, hopefully this weekend.  My weekend is actually pretty open and though the past couple of days have been really nice weather wise, its supposed to get cold again tomorrow so that will be perfect for wearing my fuzzy socks and camping out in my craft room.  Speaking of my craft room, look at what my hubby did for me:
Isn't this pegboard just perfect?  I love it!  For Christmas my grandfather gave me a visa giftcard and I used it to purchase a set of square rulers.  The largest two rulers were too wide for the caddy I was using for my rulers so the hubs put up this pegboard for me on New Year's Day.  Now all of my rulers have a home, so do my scissors and my rotary cutter.  I love it! Well, the boy has been invited to a birthday party this weekend so we have to go get a present for the honoree, and after that the hubs said he'll take us all out for ice cream, and of course, who am I to say no to ice cream?  Hope your weekend is SEW happy (and SEW warm!).
